The response to August’s devastating earthquake in the south of Haiti shows the myriad challenges Haiti faces in preparing for and responding to disasters despite lessons learned after the 2010 earthquake and 2016’s Hurricane Matthew in this same region. Haiti’s high risk of natural hazards combined with high vulnerability of its population make it crucial to improve the response to this disaster and improve capacity for preparedness and response for the future.
Join local community leaders, government officials, and national and international actors working on the 2021 earthquake response at a conference to:
-
examine what took place over the last months in the Grand Sud,
-
improve ongoing response to the urgent needs that still exist, and
-
identify steps to improve preparedness, capacity, coordination and systems.
This conference will be held primarily in Haitian Creole and will be live streamed to enable remote participation.
